I "had" a customer who was wanting to up his search engine ranking and as I am not that up on all the latest I referred
him to a person ( I thought was a friend) who specializes in that area.
the next thing I know is "they conned " him into moving his site to there "ssub-hosting site" that they provide and now he has a cookie cutter web site using all of my year & 1/2 worth of hard work (changing just enough to fit the cookie cutter format).
now the thing is he is locked into a years contract, I really should laugh but I feel like I lost a good friend to a back stabber.

Some people treat friends as business opportunities. If we're being honest we can usually spot these people quite easily, but sometimes we throw them a bone and then get annoyed when they behave exactly as we knew they would.

Put your hand on you heart. Can you honestly say this behaviour was out of character?

I've been caught out like this. It's damned annoying but all you can do is learn from the mistake.

Kaled.

That really sucks but at least you are blatantly aware of it. I'm really good at understanding a person at an indepth level and I can sense when something is not as it really seems. I'd rather be betrayed outright and not have to mess with it inside my head to get a straight forward answer.

I actually had this happen to be honest. I was still using Frontpage 98 at the time (end of that era in my life though) and I was accused (wrongly of course) of stealing emails and they went ahead and spent 20K on some bs seo company because he thought SEO results could happen in under a week. But we're talking about a cigar smoking middle aged stock trader who drives a 500 ton SUV and has an ego larger then Pistol star.

Now if this other guy is using YOUR work you may have some legal recourse but I'm not sure where that would go if anywhere.

I can really picture it.
