Hi,
I have a VPS account with a good hosting provider. I have had no problems with them [atleast no serious ones]. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if upgrading to higher package would help server performance. The higher package basically just has more RAM, more data transfer and more space.
Should I upgrade? Is it really worth it. It'll double my hosting cost.
Regards,
R

If you have a real vps, you should have access to the operating system. Assuming you are running an OS like linux or unix, just ssh into the server, then execute the top comand, which will show you live server resource useage, including memory. If your cpu and memory useage are hovering close to 100% during busy times, you need to upgrade, depending on which thing is maxing out.

If the site is busy and runs dynamic db stuff, it's unlikely 256 mB is enough, but see for yourself.
