Buttons on some sites dont work

as well as some software

This is weird and I cant for the life of me figure out whats wrong.

On some web sites like Tiscali I cant click on any send mail buttons, on other sites the JAVA script menus dont work in as much as they wont scroll down or roll over. (it isnt that obvious)

Coupled with the fact that certain programs have features that dont work while running on this machine.

Now I suspect that it had something to do with the security settings being set incorrectly, is that likely to be so? To the best of my ability I have lowered them and to no effect.

Ive switched browser from IE to Firefox and made sure all updates have been downloaded, with no avail.

Come on then whats the problem?...Before I burst in to tears.

Doubt that I can help specifically, but are you using Norton IS? Sometimes Norton gets its pants in a knot and its almost impossible to discover the source of the problem .. for me anyway.

If Norton, did you try disabling it to see if the site works?

I apologize if this is too elemental, but just a thought.

No im using Mcafee and spysweeper Ill try your suggestions though.

What OS are you using, if it's a multi-user one are you logged on as an admin?

Windows XP and yes im logged in as admin.

Its all very odd.
