Some background: Basically some 90% of those that use the internet have changed their habits to avoid spyware according to a Pew Internet and American Life Project survey. From the pcpro.com article:
Apparently, awareness is also increasing about the relative danger of dodgy Internet sites. Almost half, 48 per cent, of internet users say that they have stopped visiting particular websites due to the fear they might deposit unwanted programs.

Since my site depends on search visits mainly I had some questions for those with more knowledge than me.

What makes a site look 'dodgy'?
Aside from the obvious is there some terms to avoid in the development of your site?
I didn't find it in the article, what sites are being avoided from the quote above?
Do you think that people are avoiding or will avoid search results in determining what sites to visit?

Here is one of the background articles on the subject. I couldn't find another thread on this subject.

Some more detail from the actual study...
Holding all other factors
constant, internet users who engage in the following activities are more likely to have had
spyware or adware on their computer: visiting adult sites, downloading computer
programs, playing online games, downloading music, sharing files, downloading
computer games, downloading screensavers, and buying a product online. If an internet
user avoids those activities online, he may be able to reduce his chances of contracting
spyware.

This answers most of my questions.
