Does anyone have an experience with combining a weblog package with a message board script?

Meaning I want to setup my new site to be run like a blog but I would also like to show a listing of recent posts or list posts within my front page somewhere.

I didn't want www.sampleurl.com/blog and then www.sampleurl.com/forum.
I'd like to run my new blog site and as www.sampleurl.com and show a listing of posts from the forums on it too.
