Microsoft Corp. has been discussing the possibility of buying a developer of adware, Claria Corp., according to reports published in U.S. newspapers Thursday. However, the deal is in danger of falling through, in part because of concerns about how such a move would be seen by the public, the reports said.

I, for one, would consider such a move highly suspicious. In fact I consider it highly suspicious that they even initiated the deal in the first place.

It does raise some red flags, but maybe Google is only after technology and maybe, just maybe, it will mean the end to one major headache. I doubt that Microsoft will deploy anything like currently exists with Claria/Gator

I do think, that Microsoft's actions will get much tighter scrutiny than other companies so maybe some positive precedents could be set if Microsoft did buy Claria and then was forced to reign in privacy issues and advertising tactics.

The only way that MS could pull through this with greater disposition by most of us here is if they bought them and then fired all their asses! }>:->

Why is GatorGate the only thing that comes to mind on this possibility. :)
