Server IP change - Serp wrecker?

Does changing the IP your site is hosted on affect SERPs?

Hi. New here. Great place. I've lurked a while and learned a lot.

Got the following email this morning from my host. Will this totally wreck my serp standings? I'm kind of new to this aspect of things, so I just don't know.

Thanks in advance.

<snip>Paraphrase - due to a sever upgrade your IP address will be changed to w.x.y.z

Hi Wocka and welcome to WebmasterWorld.

It will not have the slightest affect on your rankings. Have a look through the forums, this question has come up many times here.

Thanks, TJ.

Is there anything I need to do? It seems like it has to be important somehow.

If your ISP does things correctly, no you don't have to do a thing. They are just being very good in telling you just in case some application you were using (such as an FTP client) was configured using the IP address rather than your domain name.
