I've seen posts about subdomains. It's about time I learn what they are.
What are the advantages of creating a subdomain? Why would someone do it. Disadvantages, etc.

advantage: it's cheaper than buying 200 extra "real" domains advantage: you can stuff keywords in the sub domain portion of the URL, instead of/as well as the page part
disadvantage: the whole domain and all subdomains can be banned at once

This is just my experience, but back when I had an established site (it was around for 4-5 years) I just created a new directory and tossed all the "new site" info into it, and put a "/" in the URL. Tossed up links to the site on all my established site's pages, and in a day or so my new site is right up there at the top of SERPs. Then again, my old site was very established, and you could link anything to it and you'd get hitting the rankings pretty high. Alas, I don't have that site anymore... :(
