Arial, Verdana?

I'm looking at changing the look and feel of the site and am considering changing the font.

The font is currently a bog standard Arial but I'd consider something more contemporary like Verdana.

Are there any guidelines as to which font is easier for users? Do certain fonts affect sales? Are some fonts not so good looking on say TFT screens? Is it best to just stick with the crowd and use a bland, but recognisable font, etc.
