How to Hide Referrer URL

How do I hide my referrer URL from other websites? If someone clicks on a link from my website and goes to the other, how do I hide my referrer URL from it?

I'm pretty sure this can only be controlled at the browser or server level, not at the website level. If you have access to your server, I think you can turn off referrals. Don't quote me on that though.

It is a client-side feature. E.g. with Firefox there is a preference in "about:config" called network.http.sendRefererHeader ( see [mozilla.org ] )

Since you said "other websites," I'm thinking maybe you don't want your own website showing up as a referrer in the logs of others?

If so, you can run outbound clicks through a redirect someplace. (and then it will still show a referrer, but the referrer won't be your site.)

Forgive my curiosity, I'm probably missing something here.

If some site gets traffic via links on my site, I WANT the other site to know it.
The target site might be encouraged to link back.

Larry, the reason why one would want to prevent their site from being shown as a referrer is off topic. I'm just looking for a solution. Feel free to post the question in another thread.

As far as a solution goes, I was hoping not to have to do a redirect. I was hoping there'd be a way to implement a solution on the server level, or through a script that modifies the headers being sent or something.
