Converting pages to php re: SE ranking

Does it have any impact on rankings-especially Google?

My contract site designer has been converting pages to .php from .html. Will this have any negative impact on my Google SE rankings?

Thanks in advance for responding.

Doesn't matter at all. What matters are the parameters (if any) of the query string because some egines follow them others does not.

You should be fine after googlebot crawls the new site. But to be on the safe side, you could have redirects from the old pages to the new. Now your PR rankings on the new pages will be affected until the other sites linking to you update their links.

None what so ever - as long as the redirect's are in place.

I'd look for a good article on .htaccess redirects (the one I'm thinking of is currently number 2 in Google.Com for url redirect .htaccess but there are plenty of others).

Don't forget to use a permanent redirect marker so the spiders know that the change is not temporary.
