I need a toll-free 800 number and a remote, web based PBX .. I guess.
After reaching the first step, the user would dial an extension / additional number (it would be even better if s/he could dial the whole # at one shot), one of thousands, and the call would be forwarded to the number associated with that code.
Have any of you folks done this? What is your experience?
Where I can subscribe to such a service?
Would like to have:
-Caller ID
-Selectable hours of operation
-Temp call recording
And anything else I can get that will mitigate contact fraud.

I have actually used and set up my clients with systems like this. I don't believe I can give the url here of the company that I use, just do a google search for "virtual 800", "virtual phone system", "virtual pbx", etc and you will find plenty of them, not just the one I have used.
I have seen quite a number of these services resulting from internet searches. But most offer 10 or up to 100 "inboxes" or extensions, but I'm talking thousands of 3rd parties .. or maybe I'm not understanding the jargon they use.
I imagine you want the recoding feature for telephone payment processing.
The calls don't come to us but to 3rd parties. I want the recording feature as an additional anti "call-fraud" feature.

Are you looking for thousands of dedicated extensions/lines or the ability for the system to handle and redirect thousands of callers at once to a third party or third parties?
I want to have 1 dedicated 800 number. And I have a list of 3rd parties .. say 5,000. Each listing has our 800 number plus a unique extension that we designate.
Someone looks at the list and decides to call one of the listings.
Preferred: The call is forwarded / goes directly to that 3rd party's real phone number
Option: The call goes directly to a "PBX' and the user punches in the extra digits and that forwards to the 3rd party's real phone number
Althought a listing may have a unique extension, it *may* never be called.
The situation is almost the reverse of how most services are set up. Instead of a large number of calls to a few extensions .. it is a few/no calls to a large number of extensions.
The system would forward 1 call at a time. If we got busy, we would get an additional line.

clarification?
I just checked on a couple of referrals and saw that they were offering "voicemail boxes".
I am wanting to forward a live telephone call to a specific real telephone number and allow the parties to speak directly .. not just leave a message.
Sorry for being slow on the uptake .. but I can remember when the family home did not have a telephone .. or electricity .. or .... :)
