Hi,

It seems this company was asked by one
of their clients to monitor my web site.

Why would this be so? I asked them to stop
and they complied, however, I wonder who
would want this done? Creepy!

Thanks.

Well it could be to see when your site is down? Then the know about your downtime.

Corey,

It seemed they were monitoring
my site every day for long periods
of time and I wonder who they
are and why?

One of their clients asked them,
which puzzles me.

What do they care about my downtime?

Well the client might have accidentally put in your URL instead of theirs? There could be a lot of reasons. Did you ask the company if the client gave a reason? Or ask the client?

Hi Corey,

They said that one of their clients
registered my web site. They also
told me they don't know why, and that
they cannot tell who the client is.

It bothers me why anyone would want
to do this. You think they would be
more concerned with their own site.

It's creepy. Do you of anyone else
that this has happened to?

Thanks

Actually - a lot of those companies that monitor sites like that verify that you are the site owner because that eats up your bandwidth. They should have only monitored your client's website - not yours

Corey,

A client of h o s t - t r a c k e r
wanted my site monitored. Their
client has nothing to do with me.

Gotcha - sorry I misread it. Maybe that client was thinking of using you as a hosting company and they wanted to see what was your uptime themselves

Corey,

I'm not a hosting company.

I just think that this is creepy.

Why would anyone do this?

If they were targeting a page with a lot of graphic content and downloading it frequently they were likely trying to burn your bandwidth and take your site down.

This of course would cause you to either spend more money on hosting (assuming you don't already have unlimited bandwidth) or have your site go offline and probably get penalized in the SERPS after the various bots see nothing but errors.

In the above case, their client was probably a competitor of yours.

Freq---

Thanks for your interesting ideas.

I have no competition. I'm ranked #1
all over the place, not that anyone
is looking for me. I'm trying to
create a new market.

My site is to help native web sites
learn about internet marketing, seo,
etc.

I just wonder why anyone would want
to take me down - if that be the case -
and have this company do it for them.

I smell something dastardly.

Have you heard of ho st - tr ac ker?
