Is 800 x 600 gone yet?

Is there some stats about what resolution is most popular to browse web today?

I guess 1024 x 768 but I'd like to confirm is 800 x 600 is dead or is worth to consider in your design.

Some Nielsen or others study about it out there?

My month to date stats show just over 30% of my sessions use 800x600. 0.38% are using 640x480 and just over 52% are on 1024x768. Now these stats are good but not everyone browses with the window open all the way, especially on the large resolution screens. So even on bigger monitors people may have the window sized to 800x600.

I am not going to make 30% of my users scroll, I might start to think about it once it dips below 5%. My audience is mainly small business owners and corporate types. Check your logs, it is in there.

800 x 600 is dead

I'm gonna follow the money. When the advertising folks come out with something wider than the 728 x 90 leaderboard, then it's time for me to consider giving up 800 x 600 support.

Although my monitor can do 1280 x 1024, I prefer to set it to 800 x 600 because it's just so much easier on the eyes. I don't want to get a bigger monitor, because I just don't want something that's very unwieldy on my desk (there's enough clutter as it is).

So it's not so much a case of waiting for everyone to upgrade, because some people prefer the lower resolution. Small is beautiful.

According to The Counter, Resolution Stats for February 2005 [thecounter.com] say that there are still 28% users with 800x600.

I still design for 800x600.

I may have a 1280x1024 realestate, but I and a lot of people generally have a broswer still open in a 800 x 600 window.

It will be a long time before 800 x 600 is dead. Just because you have the screen real estate for high res full screen, doesn't mean you are going to use it.

No. Many home users that I deal with have their montiors set to this res - most out of ignorance. If your target audience is home users, you need to design for 800 width. On the other hand, I have a client who's audience is exclusively advertising agencies and the like. So I design that site for 1024 and high bandwidth. It all depends on your market.

So still designing for 800 * 600...
What about layers use, seems to be safe today for most browsers.
In fact all I care is IE (95% of my users are IE) and Firefox 4%.

I got used to use tables but seems layers are here to stay. Do you have good experiences using them with %, to fit different resolutions?
