What is the advantage of hosting a site with a dedicated IP instead of using virtual hosting (which is very budget-friendly)? What effect, for instance, does it have on things such as traffic, and page ranking, etc?
Thanks.

I doubt if it affects traffic too much - since i went dedicated the traffic has increased only as was expected with new content being added. The might be some little effect though - if you server is very fast and doesn't keep googlebot waiting that you might get more visits, more indexing, so more visitors.

Thanks longen, for your reply. I've been following a thread in google news about this very same topic. While it seems that traffic may be somewhat affected, there is some evidence that a site will be more secure from any "black sheep" in a "neighborhood" if it has its own ip. And, there are other advantages that make a dedicated ip worthwhile, and apparently it can also be budget-friendly.
