I put up a messageboard of my own design. I went 7 days before getting any spam. I thought maybe I would avoid the spam because I wasn't using a canned program.

It was Russoent. Google lists 33,000 hits for Russoent. A look through suggested that every listing was a bulletin board, all in the last month or so.

The best thing was that he apparently found my bulletin board in just 4 hits -- a visit to a defunct bbs folder, my main page, straight to my bulletin board, and then a new entry. For a robot, I was impressed.

It could have been found via a search engine. If there's any giveaway text on your pages, like "bulletin board" or "comments", it's likely that you will come to the attention of these robots. Just make sure the spammers can derive no benefit whatsoever from submitting to your board.
