G Indexing Question

Why would G index more pages than I have?

Anyone Experience this?

My site has a little under 3,000 pages. I have been tracking the progress of the site for the past 4 months and we have been building the pages consistantly for freshbot to index us more often. The page finally got on freshbot, and is now being indexed quite frequently.

When I check the index status: site:www.mydomain.com I get 8,400 results. Why is that when my site only has a shade under 3,000 pages?

Anyone else had this happen to them?

From personal experience, this does not seem to be unusual. Also, this question has been raised a number of times, so I guess we are not alone.

are you sure you are checking site:www.domain.com and not site:domain.com?
If you are doing the latter, then you may find that Google has double indexed your site, with a copy of ht tp://www.domain.com and ht tp://domain.com/
In addition, you may also have instances of ht tp://domain.com/dir/ and ht tp://domain.com/dir/index.html, and all of these counts will add up.
You should take care of these dup possibilities at the server level.

Hi leadegroot

I definetly did site:www.mydomain.com and not site:mydomain.com

Without the www usually gives less results. But, I will check to see if the double indexing has occured. Thanx for the tip!

Thanx,
