i have 2 computers one win2k the other win98

i've connected the 2 together with network cards and a hub,

the win2k can access the win98 no problem,

the win98 sees the win2k but cannot access it,
it asks for a password, but i've set no password nor can i find a place to change edit a password (i've tried the users passwords and setting the win98 as a user) and have been on this for three days going through all the help files etc, but am stuck,

any suggestions appreciated.

Hi,

Might not be the same but I am on W2k here. When I try to map to a user's Windows NT4 HD I get a username and password prompt. I plug in the administrator name and password to connect. Normally I map to the user's HD with the following syntax...

\\machine name here\d$

(d$ being the D: drive. Just insert the drive letter you want to hit on the target machine).

click_watcher have yow tried setting a new user on the Win2K something like other_pc and give that user admin rights then set the 98 system to login as other_pc.

The problem is that the win98 system is pass the wrong credentials.

Windows 98 dosen't an option to supply the user name. (that I've ever seen)

Eg. You have to have a user on your NT/2K box with the same name as your 98 username. That user should be set to see any shares or printers you have.

The password prompt will go away when this is done.

(as DaveN was saying - I think ;))

yes thanks.

i had to put a new user (the username of the win98pc) onto w2k and now its ok

great!!!!

except that ... i can't figure out how to share the w2k internet connection and sharing a printer is a problem too,

damn i've set all relevant things to share and it doesn't work..

the worst thing is, i thought this would be straightforward, and now i should be busy with other things but am really distracted with this problem,

you know how it is, i've work to do but i keep scratching at this itch (network problem) instead because it is really annoying me!!!

hehe

Have you shared drives on the win2k machine? - both machines in fact. If you see the IPC share, which is an administrative share you should be close.
