Hi everyone,

I've been running a site for a few months. However, my traffic has not grown as I had expected. Since it was my first site, I might have lost initial few months but now I've gathered more or less the ropes of running a website. There is still one aspect, popularizing the site, which has not yet been covered and thats where I need the veteran's help. I'm currently getting about 20 uniques per day, which disappoints me.

Also I've observed, that in most cases, sites get about 2000-3000 uniques or stay below the 50-100 uniques. I wish to break this barrier and get to the stratosphere (well thats what even 1000 hits seems). How is it that those people who get 2000 - 3000 uniques work out? I suppose there is some "secret" of just putting your site in some sort of auto-gear and then see the traffic soar without any effort. I'd appreciate is someone would wish sharing that. But here even maintaining 30 seems like a lot of task.

By the way, if you wish to visit the site, pm me so I'll send you the link although I feel the question is fairly general.

Thanking you all in advance with anticipation of touching 500 uniques/d by next weekend with your help.

You could join one of the many free traffic exchange programs and get massive amounts of traffic to your website at no cost.

I use traffic exchange programs to promote my websites and I can see immediate results. On one of my sites, the daily visitor average went from 2 to 106 in just a few months and it is increasing each month. I didn't even spend have to spend one penny on promoting my website!

The amount of visitors you get will depend on the exchange ratio and how much time you invest in each traffic exchange program.

I've tried using the traffic exchange programmes. However, they hardly get good visitors to the site. Most of the visitors are the same ppl seeking same motive.

There is no secret, or at leat I don't know it. Here is my tried and true fomula: If you want good traffic, put something novel on your site. Content or technology, make people want to visit your site and in the long term you will get the visitors. Anyone can get a lot of people to their site by buying Super Bowl ads but we have all seen what happens to companies that do that without having a solid site behind it.

Why the preoccupation with traffic? Unless you are running CPM advertising, it is all about quality traffic, not quantity. And a few months is not enough time to see your traffic really climb. I really don't see solid traffic for about a year after the site goes "live". It takes a while for people to learn that your content/technology is around and link to/send people to it. Even with extensive SEO and link aquairing efforts.

Try to do some deals with other sites of interest to attract the kind of visitors you want. You don't have to spend money to get content for your site. Trade your content for a cool widget that will keep people coming back. A lot of times people will give it to you just for a link back to their site.

Getting to the "stratoshphere" is a long term goal. Focus on short term goals that will get you closer to your long term goal like getting 5 pieces of content a week, getting one deal a month and refine your site so that it "converts" as many of those precious visitors as possible. Nothing automatic about it.

Hey monkeythump, thanks a lot. That gives a lot of confidence. I particularly agree with the short term target idea.
