I'm looking for a tool which parses web pages, checking the validity of the metadata. I know there are lots of HTML validators, but I've never heard of a metadata checker.

Are there any?

The best way to make sure you have the right metadata for search engines is to just remove it. It is just addding size to your webpage and really does not serve much value. The description tag is the only one that migh have a little value but not much.

Most web developers still believe that Meta Data and site Traffic have a large impact on serach engine ranking. IT DOES NOT!

No you misunderstand. This has nothing to do with SEO. A potential client wants to know that all websites/ web pages will comply with Dublin Core metadata etc.

I just need a quick way of checking existing pages for the existence/absence of DC metadata.

That can be done with a quick perl tool or any language that can surf the web. If you have access to the server you can right a small batch file to do it.
