Don't recall how much it costs, but companies tend to use it to track any mentions of themselves in the press, so you could use it to track competitors and guestimate advertising expenditure if they are advertising.
But given there are a million and one ways to advertise, it's hard to track everything and any figure you put on it will most likely be a guesstimate in most cases.
If you are really bothered about what they spend, then why not just phone up and ask them? :)
