Does anyone know of any that redirect a site for free? I was surprised to know that a popular host I was referred to wanted to charge for this. Is this common?

Is this an existing site, or just a domain name? If it's just a domain, some companies will charge and others will not. If it's an existing site with server space and all, you should be able to redirect with .htaccess.
