What are some powerful search systems for my site? I maintain a huge collection of items and I'd like to have a Yahoo/Google style search option (with page generation).
I was thinking of programming it myself which shouldn't be too difficult but it's probably better to purchase some tried-and-tested software for the job.
I'm mostly looking for speed and the system must be totally local to my site (not like that 'search provided by Google' thing).
Thanks.
They are trying to change to a paid biz model and appeal more to the enterprise than formerly, but if you look, you will see that they still offer the free search tool as well.
Been very good for me and my web development clients over the years. And they email you monthly lists of search terms people used - good keyword info.
They let you customize the look 'n feel, but do put their logo on the free search. I think that if you want to pay, you can do away with the logo, but i've always used the free site search tool, so not sure.
I will use FDSE when I'll make time to install it.
Until then I've checked atmoz.com to see what a commercial engin can do. It is free but the payback is the limited number of indexed pages (up to 750).
Next try I'll do with master.com, which by the way, has interesting free tools - defintelly deserves some attention. See also their affiliates for more free tools.
Looking forward to hear about any other search tools..
