MASSIVE redirects coming!

We are doing brand new restructuring of the site. A lot of the old .html pages will need redirects as they are not only found by search engines, but many partners will or cannot change to the new links in time.

My question would be the effect of these redirects on our current rankings – how will they be affected with a mass number of redirects?

Some redirects will go off to downloads.mydomain.com/blahblah rather than what it is now: www.mydomain.com/blahblah

This will also be a redirect of .html to .php pages as well…
