In my opinion there's only one way to make your website a success. Submission to searchengines is the key word. You get direct results and you can keep count of which se brings you visitors.

Of course there are banner-exchanges, internet-charts (with so-called popular pages). In the beginning that seemed a good to promote my website. But now my homepage is running for neirly eight months I can conclude that banner-exchanges and internet-charts suck. I didn't get much visitors.

Anyone around here who has POSITIVE experiences with internet charts and/or banner exchanges?

I my view you are looking at it the wrong way. I thing the way to a succesfull website is:

1. Good content
2. Good content
3. Good content
4. good services
5. Up-to-date info
6. good links and ressources.

Whitout this your listings will be low and your users will not come back

HI

I agree with Bufferzone.

I have tried banner exchanges and i think i got 0,2% clicks so i wont spend any time for that anymore. Good position for a relevant keyword in the SE and deliver a site with the same content. Good link exchange seems very good to me. update the site often if you dont got any new content just change something.

I find hosting the link exchange works better than being on someone elses. When you host the ratio of banners displayed is up to you. The first thing is getting the people to yer site to make the banner exchange happen.

The visitors that get to my site through a search engine, search for the keywords that are related to my website. Most of my visitors return to the site.

Through the banner-exchanges, pop-up sites and website-charts, a lot of people ended up at my site with no interest in the information I bring.

My site has around 10 to 15 visitors a day, it seems not much, but at least the visitors really come to look for the information I bring. That's the most valuable thing to me.
