Hi all,

Just thought I'd seek some friendly advice from webmasters on here. I've been designing websites for a few years now, I'm basically a marketing guy who taught himself HTML and learnt CSS, ASP in the past year, I'm wondering if you could suggest what I should learnt next?

I've never learnt any programming as such, so I was looking at learning some VB, I reckon it'll help with my asp coding too. I'm not looking to make a career in IT, just wanna upgrade my skills and learn something thats relevant to the internet and website designing. Any ideas? tips?

Thanks a lot

PERL or PHP come in handy on lots of sites.

Well the most basic language for any dynamic pages is JavaScript. If you learn how to use it well enough you can do some really cool stuff (but alot of people overlook this language).

Aside from that, I'd go with PHP. It's supported by most servers and a little easier to learn than Perl. And Perl is alot easier to learn if you can do PHP already :)

I'll agree with PERL or PHP. You can do some fun, cool stuff with those. You only need one or the other, though. The two languages basically serve the same purpose.

I have heard that female geared websites needs to be more detail oriented. I think that goes along with the verbal vs visual thing.

I'd learn VB.NET over VB. It's going to be relevant a lot further into the future. It's also a much more powerful tool for building websites and web applications, because it's object-oriented, than its predecessor. If you already understand the basics of ASP, you should pick it up quickly. And if you're worried about the expense of upgrading, FW
