Does anyone have any experience with Virtual Dedicated Servers. I need to host a web site physically in the US, and my client can't afford to host dedicated - anyway - it would be overkill. But I like to have control over starting and stopping Apache, changing PHP parameters and having full access to MYSQL.

I saw this web site : <snip> which seems to offer a cheap Virtual Dedicated Server solution based in the US. But since putting in a pre-sales question via a support ticket, on 17th Dec, I still have not had a response. This does not bode too well.

Anyone done this already?

I use some virtual dedicated servers. It's been a great way to host a bunch of sites, make changes easily, and save some real money compared to an equal powered dedicated server. I like it.

However, service is always key with hosting. You can find this service from hosts with 24/7 live 1-800 phone support at pretty low prices. I'd look for this, and call to test them a few times. Some actually have pretty knowledgeable people asnwering the phone. Avoid the trained monkeys and the "we'll call you back..." crowd.
