Just looking to see if there is a way I can stop people from copying the pictures from my website. I know something is out there that does it, just whether or not it is worth it I don't know.

I have been to a site that I right-clicked on a pic and it came up with a message that it had been disabled and another that gave a funny message that said "stop trying to copy my pics" (or something similar). I even got to a site you couldn't copy text.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

To be able to see the page in a browser the page (and contents) must be downloaded, so at the end of the day there is no way to stop a determined person from copying images, or text (since they will be in the computer's cache).
I get really p****d when I can't use a browser function, such as right click.
Of course, last resort for copying an image (or text) would be to take a screen shot........
Put a copyright reminder on your page, if it feels right (I do).
You may dissuade a few viewers but then you may upset a few others by setting up barriers that don't hold water at the end of the day.
P.S.
I've had several pics and articles ripped off and used by other webmasters. I check around and try to keep the repercussions at a minimum, occasionally by mailing out DMCA reports.
The rip off artists are, at least in my case, in the minority. I try to keep the majority of visitors content.

You absolutely can't stop the determined copier, but there are measures you can take to dissuade the lazy that won't piss off your honest visitors too much. You can make your images the background to a table, and put a transparent gif over the top of them. So when someone attempts to right-click and copy the image, they're just saving the blank one. You can also take steps to prevent your images appearing in image searches such as Google images, which people who are intent on finding pictures to rip will obviously use a lot.

There are things you can do, but it's a matter of how much time you are prepared to put in and whether or not it's worth it for you.

the best solution (but pricey) is to use a company that specialises in electronically watermarking your images, they then spider the internet and send you a list of domains & url's where your pics are located.

you may find that someone who uses one of your images but who links back to your site acting within what may be considered 'fair use'

In summary, don't do anything that will disable any functionality of a web browser. Pictures are just like music; if you can hear it, you can steal it; if you can see it, you can steal it.

I would advise not to disable the right mouse click because it would tend to irritate your legit users.

Because they will be unable to right click to open page in new window option to keep a certain page of your site open to explore various links from the given page and not get lost in your site.

Also they may want to keep the page open where the referring link to your site came from.

I rarely follow a site sequentially.

Depends on the area you operate in, I am in a very unsophisticated user area and I get dozens of emails every month from people who say it is not fair that I stop them taking my pictures and content by disabling right click. They say the web is for sharing!
Clearly it stops these people

I use hundreds of rare and unique images and it really does help me, so it can be beneficial
