I assume by default there is a bunch of unnecessary stuff running in the background of Win ME. Anyone have recomendations on what to diable/delete and how to do it to free up system resources?

Switch back to 98...
Actually, go to run and type in msconfig and kill everything you don't want/need to start up when you boot. Make sure you leave ScanRegistry, TaskMonitor. and SystemTray checked or you'll have some problems. I'm not a big ME fan, it seems to be 98 with fifty pounds of extra fat, but this should help.

Thank-you both! Performance is noticeably improved already. Definately thought about going back to WIN98:)
