I've checked, and so did many of my colleagues, and with Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed, we just can't make htm and html document open with Firefox by default. XP now has a new window for available programs. Some are highly suggested.

If the program is not on the list, good luck trying to open pages locally with Firefox. Even using the "locate another program" thing doesn't work.

Thanks God Microsoft saves the day with Internet Explorer.

i use windows xp sp2 and firefox and I have no problems. firefox is my default browser. make sure you uncheck the box in ie options that says to check if ie is default browser. also make sure that this option is checked in firefox. that should solve everything. windows also has a program settings option in control panel, i believe, where you can change this.

If you check 'Set Program Access and Defaults' from the Start menu, or from the bottom button on the menu in Add or Remove Programs, it lists 3 configurations. The last 2 both list Firefox as an alternative browser that can be selected instead of IE.

Firefox is already the default browser - has been for months. But since I installed the service pack, it isn't listed anywhere and I can't change file extension associations.
