Due to the relatively crazy ammount I am charged to cash checks from The US I was wondering if you can have A US Bank account as a UK citizen?
Anyone?

There have been threads about that before and.... well, forget it.

shop around, cashing us$ cheques in the uk is not expensive. eg with barclays small cheques are free, and with larger ones save them up and pay a single fee of 9 pounds for as many as you like.

I think that the £9 charge is per 3 cheques... but, I could be wrong. With Barclays if you have a good relationship with them they may even "negotiate" it for you rather than "collect" it which results in a payment period of days rather than weeks.

Hey, no problem :)

The Citibank link above looks interesting.

I like the sound of Barclays, I tried to take a few in at once with my bank (Abbey) but was still charged per cheque...Gutted!
I did take a look at citibank, it looks good but I noticed they say

"You must be able to credit monthly your annual salary of at least £20,000 or make an initial deposit of £2,000 into your account"

Dont know if I want my wages paid into this account, but ill look further into this one all the same.

not true :)! the standard form has room for only 3 entries but you can either ask for the 'long sheet' or if you are brave list the cheques on a seperate piece of paper, staple it to the short form and write the grand total on the short form ... charge nine pounds.

don't know about this, i don't have a particularily special relationship with them, i pay in using the above form straight over the counter, but i receive payment within days always - i get a nice standard letter each time from poole? or somewhere like that confirming it, and the amount is credited to my account.
