A site about everything?

I learn hundreds of new things each week. These are random things, random questions that I normally use the internet to find out what to do.

I was wondering if anyone experimented with creating a site with no specific "topic", but rather just a gathering place for all the random articles/tutorials you know enough about to write on.

For example:

How to dump a girl
How to fix a flat tire (learned that yesterday)
How to have a party during a hurricane
How to correctly board up windows before a hurricane
How to install windows 95 on a Fujistu lifebook 535
How to purchase a cheap laptop on ebay
etc.. etc...

The articles would most likely be completely random, just stuff you learned as you go through life, either through education or experience.

I am not talking about putting a huge investment of time or money into this, just slap on adsense and pick up the checks.

But if I have am having a friend who is a professional contractor put up my hurricane boards, why couldn't I snap a few phptos, write a few notes, and post a 300 word tutorial on it?

Exactly! Except smaller

Why couldn't I turn my life experiences (combined with a blog) into a mini ehow to earn a few extra bucks a month.

Sounds like a perfect idea for a blog to me.

And attach two more pages to each of the articles ;)

1. Related links
2. Link-to-us/Add url

There's absolutely no reason why you can't do this :) I do a little bit of that in my spare time as well. THe pain is the writting. Not only do you need to write all of this stuff down, but you usually need to edit it afterwards to make sure it makes sense, etc...

If you write well this can all be done much quicker though. Go for it and good luck :)

That also sounds like About.com. You can start a blog about anything. I would reccomend having a theme like articles useful for men between the ages of 20-40. This will help build a following.

Why not do it using wiki? Other people could contribute to the articles and add helpful suggestions.

And other people can edit stuff that's badly written.

My first little hobby site is like that. I wanted to run my own site and didn't want to tie myself down to one subject for my first solo effort.

Now I use it to launch some of my and my friends sites. It doesn't get much traffic, but Google visits pretty regularly and I can write an article on just about any subject (read whatever topic the site that needs a link from is about) and link out to the new site as a "read more about this here" sort of link just to coax Google there a little faster.

It's a great idea and there are various existing implementations of it with different spins. The oldest one's I'm aware of are Philip Greenspun's site (includes photo.net) and Justin's Links (links.net). And don't forget about HowStuffWorks.com -- a site that, anytime I find myself on it, makes me say out loud, "WHY didn't I think of this?"

The latter site is the only one that's running ads, BTW. (From a quick glance, that's what I gathered anyway).

I'm not affiliated with any of the abovementioned sites, in any way. I'm married to a "Justin" but not that Justin!

Is there a site about self-confessed incompetents who keep getting fired from their jobs?

Tips and tricks on how to move back to your parents, mooch off the boyfriend/girlfriend, work yourself into a psychosomatic illness...

THE site for people who screw everything up, and want to keep within the law.

Do you think my dream site "ikeepgettingfired-dot-com" might work?

I've read threads that would qualify as starter content for a site of that nature on community blog sites like MetaFilter.

Usually, someone will drop a "Thanks, I just got fired" one liner in anytime someone posts a Not Safe For Work (NSFW) post without that identifier.

See, there's really a site for everything.

You can do it as a personal homepage or personal journal type of site and get an ODP listing. :)

Yes, I have great plans - a message board, litigation lawyer pages, "unlucky string of bad bosses" testimonials, and lots of 404s due to careless, pink-slip-worthy coding by yours truly.

I wish to have my own message board. How do I insert pictures on the board? Thanks.

How about a "site about nothing". Would you get sued by Seinfeld?

No, I think we have enough sites about nothing... maybe too much...

I try posting an image on a mb and it stays for a little while then becomes a blank square. I do the copy/paste method. The picture does not stay on the mb for long. I wish to ask how to keep the images longer on the mb.

Give google a few more years, they'll have it, but it'll be our content ;) ;)

Here's where it goes - and invite requests for even more of "nothing"
