Hi guys, i'm new to all of this, so please forgive me if some questions i ask are stupid.

First off, i went to file mamagment (webshell) on my control panel and clicked protect (dont ask why), this of course password protected my whole site-i can access it but no one else can. There is no option in webshell to stop this option or to remove it. What can i do to stop it so the site isnt protected anymore?

My second question would be, if i add a subdirectory for exapmle mainpage.com/firstpage. I can add files trough ftp to it fine, but when i try to access it in explorer, it says that i dont have permission. How do i make it show/or get permission to do it.

Thanks guys,

Alen S.

First off, there is no such thing as a stupid question here

What is the control panel that you are using (cpanel, ensim, plesk, something else)?

Thanks man, the control panel is called H-Sphere, and again i did the protect option in WebShell which is an option from h-sphere.

Thanks.

now while I dont know what this control panel does or how it works i would go into FTP and look for a .htaccess file that is adding something in the root folder..either rename it and see if that allows access, or open it up and take a look ;)

or it could be changing permissions, which you can also change through ftp.

Hope one of those helps, if not i tried! :)

A good host would have walked you through this , if you cant phone your host then cant you go back and click to unprotect?
If you see a drop down box listing all your different directories you can scroll down choose the directory you want to protect and then set a password and user.Sounds like you chose your root directory to protect and didnt set a password and user so even you get the unauthorized access page.
Im no pro but hope it helps.

Thanks for the help guys. I had a file i actually had to delete .htprotect. Wasnt .htaccess...I could access the site fine cause i had set up a user and password, what i couldnt do is disable the protect option. I did call my host, and they told me what to do(erace .htprotect)

Thanks anyways...
