Recently I have had more and more customers complaining that they aren’t getting their receipts. I suspect the fancy spam filters are filtering them out.

I use Jmail. How do I stop it or doesn’t anyone have a better suggestion?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you are being filtered out by them, there isn't much you can do to stop it. Maybe place a intermediate step page in the checkout process (not a pop up cause those get blocked too). Make them click ok on it and have it state that they need to watch for their receipt to come from receipts@whatever.com which may get filtered out.

Aside from that, I don't know.

On the page after they click finalize purchase, people usually have a receipt, and it tells you to print it. I would add a statement that says your suggestion is to print the receipt and that an email copy will be sent, but if they have a spam filter, they may not receive it unless they have set it to accept all email from yourdomain.com - but that would also mean your sales receipt would need to be a bit delayed to give them a few minutes to do that.

Also, you might want to check the receipts you send out. Some spam checkers look at the email and if it finds too many suspect things it simply deletes the email.

I would look at running a sample receipt/email through a spam filter like spamassassin. If you or anyone you know runs a mail server with spamassassin, or any mail filters, ask them if they could run your email through their system, in verbose mode. That way you can see what things in your emails are tripping flags.

We run all our outgoing emails regularly when there are content/template modifications through our mail filters, to make sure that they'll get through spamassassin at least.

Also, if you're having trouble sending to AOL or Yahoo and such, you may need to set up Reverse DNS [dnsstuff.com] and/or set up SPF [spf.pobox.com] (Sender Policy Framework, which AOL and many others are beginning to use). These systems may not block you outright because you don't have these systems in place, but not having them set up may add "points" to your total spam score, and get your email blocked.
