hi,
since i am not so expirienced with search-engines, i'd like to know whether commercial popups on the site affect the search-robot in a negative way.

Most likely not, but you will drive most of your customers away.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Ulrich.

As lgn1 noted, you're probably ok on the bot side of things, but pop-ups are rapidly becoming a thing of the past. Those who were still using IE, without something like the google toolbar to kill pop-ups, will soon be dl-ing XP SP2 and that will be the final nail in the coffin. Those in the know switched to Firebird/Firefox a while back and haven't seen pop-ups in quite some time.

It would be best if you re-thought your commercial strategy to not include pop-ups, pop-unders, or anything that tries to hijack a user's browser. At best, it will just p*ss people off.
