Consolidating Hosting

With one host, or many

I currently have a handful of sites with different hosts. As they become more active and require more maintaining, it's more of a hassle to be logging into various ftp accounts / admin panels, etc - it'd be much easier to have them all in one place. It'd also work out cheaper.

However, if I move everything into one place (a reseller package?), there are presumably going to be disadvantages. Downtime affecting all sites at once would be one, and I also guess that the value of linking between sites (which I don't do excessively) may fall.

Any thoughts? How are webmasterworlds esteemed members arranging their hosting?

Just have each site on it's own ip. We have all our sites on one ip right now but we are switching to unique IP's. We rank quite well. If your site only has links from itself I would be more careful but if it is just a few out of many I really don't see a problem. You do run the risk of all sites going down if you put them all on one server. If you put them on a good server/hosting company then there is a better chance of it not going down then if you have a bunch of cheap ones. We have our own server at level 3 and never had downtime that is not scheduled.
