Quote from the above article:
"Gillott said IDC believes that by the end of 2002, there will be more Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) subscribers than wired users. This dramatic shift is expected to change the way Web sites are designed. According to Schultz of Wireless Knowledge, Web sites will have to `know' when they are being accessed by a mobile device and adjust accordingly. Deloitte & Touche's Asmundson anticipates that the glitz at Web sites will be removed by protocol filters, so only core information will be downloaded."

That is a thought provoker.

Yes - as you put it once: the age of the word guru is approaching. Already we're getting fantastic results for no-optimized .txt files: which is a drag as you can't even put one lousy clickable link in them ...

Seems to me that browser-sniffing scripts will be in heavy use here. I'm already using them to change the way I present banners to MSIE or NS. It would be easy to add a test and redirect for WAP.

I was digging around and found this thread. (Notice the date is from May 2000). I brought it forward because I wondered if anyone still believed this to be the case.

nope. i provide WAP hosting and although i host some very big WAP sites, usage is very low. it looks like there simply aren't many WAP users out there.

I use it for branding. Not sure what the actual results are but it is worth a shot. I just display a URL with a brief description about it's contents.

Each site that I have it on gets about 20 uniques a day so I believe the users are there.
