I just noticed today that my home page had been set to
[searchnow.ws...]
But my homepage remains the same as my origional page (my homepage) so what is going on with this strange url???

your homepage is still index.html and the root domain still resolves so my guess is that your programmer is playing around with some sort of redirect.

One thing I did find rather annoying is that when you do a search it pops open a new window for the search results.

my old homepage was my own website... even with this new url in the homepage settings i still see my own site... what are they gaining by having their url redirect to the old homepage?

Gotcha. I have heard of a couple of sites that do that. You might want to do a site search (at the top of the page). I remember reading about a site on a thread at this forum that did just that. If I recall right after you changed the startup page back it would revert back to their URL.
