So here is the issue I'm experiencing - I'm experiencing a lag time when connecting to the server - about 2-3 seconds to connect via ssh. Also, when I visit one of the sites I put on the dedicated server, the images take quite a bit longer to load (from the dedicated server - by IP address) than they do on my shared vps server - by domain name.
The server is located in Atlanta, however - when I used a tracerout program called "Neo Trace" - the map view shows the server resolves in Seattle (however, it's second to last hop is our hosting company on the east coast). When I contacted my hosting company they assured me the server is in the Atlanta NOC - they told me that ARIN.net just hasn't updated their records for the IP address I'm using. Could the issue I'm describing with the traceroute (and confusion with ARIN) be the cause of the lag time and extra time to load images on a site on our new dedicated server?
Example of path taken
Denver -> Seattle -> San Francisco -> Los Angeles -> Dallas -> Atlanta -> Seattle -> Atlanta
I'm going to post an apache configuration question in the apache board about the images... but also wanted to see if anyone here may think this is definately from the IP address...as I also notice a lag connecting through SSH - when both my VPS servers and the new dedicated server are all in the same NOC.
Now my only question is regarding the lag time when connecting to the server via ssh, ftp, etc. It's not a "HUGE" issue - just a slight annoyance, as once I'm connected I don't have an issue.
