My question is, does anybody know of software to emulate a modem connection whilst being connected via broadband?
However, I have had some success slowing down to around modem speeds by doing a couple of things...
setting up one of my servers to allow dial in connections and surfing through it
I've also done it through slow porxys. I've been able to find a couple in the past that were fairly slow. There are sites where you can go test your connection speed, and some foreign proxys (becuase of their distance from me, and their country's inernet structure I'm guessing) I've had pretty consistant 60-75kbs connections. That's as close to dial up on broadband as I could get.
This slows down the connection because the digital 0's can get through, but the 1's get stuck.
Actually, you've got that the wrong way round - the 1's get through OK, it's the 0's which get stuck, because they are fatter than the sleeker, slimline 1's.
You could also try this free proxy script written in Java:
