I'm looking for a free hit counter to put on my pages. My cheap hosting package doesn't support PHP or CGI or anything like that. They also don't provide any kind of log analysis, so I really can't tell how many people are accessing my pages.

I don't really care how it looks, but I'd prefer something as small and inconspicuous as possible, like just a snip of text that would show up at the bottom of the page.

Are there any you'd recommend?

Addfreestats gives you a lot of data for nothing, but they do use a small image for the link.

httpwebwitch,

My suggestion is get another web host. There are way too many out there for under $10 a month that give you a full service solution, not some no-frills, no service, basically NO GOOD package. Spend 10 minutes and surf the web host directories and you will find 20 or more that would give you what you need at a very cheap price.

Other than that, you can search for free counters or free visitor statistics and find a bunch of decent products.

Good luck,
Matt

I'd second that suggestion, take the plunge, get a real webhoster, if you get a package for around $18 US with one of the top rated hosting companies in the world, you can have the ability to host other sites on your primary package, each site with its own IP, full mysql/php/.htaccess configuration, web analyzer tools, etc. I used to try to save money like that and finally realized all I was doing was spending a lot of my time trying to get stuff working, dealing with tech support that couldn't do their jobs.

Remember, it costs money to have server admins and tech support, and without those things I wouldn't expect much to work. This set my PHP programming back about 1 year since things like sessions never worked right. Now everything works, and I don't spend any time on bad hosters and incompetent tech support dweebs. You get what you pay for. Stickied you a recommendation.
