Loggin In Option on a WebSite (Members Only)

Hi everyone,

I could use a shove in the right direction.

I am currently building a protal site that will provide a large amound of information. What I would like to do, is make about 20% of that information available to the average visitor and the other 80% available to those that sign up as members.

I am not sure where to even begin. Is there a script that can be installed that prompts for users to sign up, stores their information, and opens up the site 100% to them or is this something that I may have to pay a programmer to develop for me?

Any direction would help us out. Let me know if I have not provided enough information...
