Is there some place where I can get a downloadable information on all the countries in the world and then major states in all those countries and then further cities in it.

I am sure there must be some place..

Please advice.

This is maybe going to sound flip ( isn't meant to) but I'd try the United Nations ( no idea of the link ..in an ideal world it ought to be a dot org )...followed by the wikipedia and then ask it for a list of member nations ...

you can find other stuff of this nature from the world health ( WHO )site , UNESCO etc ...
