We just came back from trying to clean up a friend's computer of spyware. We ran Ad-aware, Search and Destroy and a couple of other programs which cleaned up a lot of junk, but they didn't get rid of the My Web Search (aka My Way Search) tool bar.

If anyone has successfully removed these, I would appreciate any info.

P.S. Sorry for the typo - it should be "removal", but I can't change the title!

Have you tried any of these:

Sometimes you need to take drastic measures with these *#@$*@ things, try "Highjack This" a registry editor, to be used with caution.

Actually another good thing to do is keep a clean, fresh install of your PC in an image file. Then every few weeks you can revert to the clean image. If I ever catch one of these I just revert my machine to an earlier backup.

Thanks for the suggestions. I went through the search results in Google for getting rid of My Way Search tool bar and found 101 different ways, so I'm not sure which ones will work the best.

Their CPU performance usage was at close to 100% even when they didn't have any applications open because of all the parasiteware. Adaware found around 550 suspicious objects, which is the most of I've seen that program find. (Our previous high was 190 suspicious objects on a different friends computer with a cable connection, no firewall and a teenager who downloaded lots of music.)

We got the CPU usage down to around 4% with no applications open, but browser stuff is still slow, I suspect because the My Way Search stuff.
