Decent photo-gallery required

I've got a competition running on a website which is based on people sending in photographs. I need to put up a gallery online.

I've tested the standard HTML gallery generation in Photoshop, which does all the thumbnails etc, but from a design point of view it's hideous.

I really need something that I can automate the whole process with (lots of photo's coming in) but gives me sufficient control over inserting some branding and overall layout etc.

I don't mind frames or anything else really - this is not an SEO excercise - all the traffic will be coming from the site anyway. I just need to be able to make it look slick without having to intervene with too much manual work.

Any software available for this? I've tried searching google, but usual spam is making it hard to find something good.

If you don't mind using php, look for "gallery php" on google. The first result is a cool software for a gallery.

Thanks Dan - I'll take a look at some php options (there's quite a few I see).

I'd prefer something that generated static html if possible - our php programmer is really busy at the moment, so a small software app that produces thumbnails and the pages would be preferable.
