Page Layout Problem

FP 2003 and CSS Page Layout

I am using FP 2003 and CSS to control color and placement of everything on my pages. When I view the pages with MS IE 6.xx everything looks fine. However, I have recently had complaints from some of my visitors that items appear on top of each other in their browers.

Does anyone know if this is a browser (say, Netscape Navigator, etc.) related problem and how I might fix it?

You should download Opera and Mozilla FireFox browsers. This way, you can check this out yourself.

Different browsers do display pages (especially w/ css) differently.

Also, there's a CSS forum here. It might help you with specific problems.

Good luck!

An addendum to Robino's answer: if you're doing any kind of webmastering (i.e. more than a Geocities "family'n'friends" page) get hold of all the browser versions you can. It might even be worth getting an old PC just for this, and finding an opportunity to check your site from a Mac from time to time. (As a Mac user I have an old Windows PC around, and have even gone as far as visiting Internet cafes just to check my sites from a wide variety of computers).

Also: the number of non-IE users may seem small, but depending on site can be typically anything between 5% and 15% (YMMV). And speaking from (my own) experience: non-IE users are quick to leave sites which don't work for them, so with a bit of extra work there's an "easy" 5~15% growth potential.

The one browser not worth worrying about is Netscape 4.x, though people do still use it.

Another addendum:

Get your sites displaying properly in the OTHER browsers first. THEN tweak IE versions to fit.

Addendum to addendum :)

do a search for anybrowser.com

it should give you a quick site check of your site as seen through many browsers

at least it used to- did not go there since a long time-
