What can I do to stop this guy?

I put up a shoutbox (tagboard) not long ago and now somebody is posting about 2 dozen or so illegal links on it everyday. Illegal meaning content you would go to jail for viewing. The faster I delete them, the faster he posts more.

I've blocked all bad words from it, but you can easily get around that. He must be using a proxy because it's a different ip address every time, mostly from Poland but from other countries too. The whois info for all the sites are fake except for his initials (possibly), but I did a reverse server ip lookup and found another site on the server with his name and address.

If I start blocking his ip's, that's just going to make him mad and may start terrorizing my site even more. The only other option would be to remove the shoutbox just to stop this one guy, which I shouldn't have to do.

Are there any other options?

How about the useragent or referrer, are they the same each time, a list of different ones or totally random? Something that makes his requests unique...

You might want to try giving out cookies for people who post forms and if they/their bot doesnt accept it, that may catch the culprit.

Another suggestion is, if you can pinpoint him, maybe with usiing the cookie suggestion above, make it look like he's actually posting the links, to him only of course :)

The shoutbox script shows me the ip addresses and that's it, I had to turn off the server logging because they grew to over 2gb every couple of days and would make the server grind to a halt.

The ip address are mostly from different isp's in poland but some are from different countries with different isp's.

I'll look into the cookie thing and see if that'll work.

i'd block his ip totally.

very likely he's not doing this manually, he's prob using a script. so he won't even notice that you've blocked him and get mad .. he's prob going to be busy trying to find more places to go spam
