Hi I have a question. Recently I started being indexed by both yahoo and google. My rank was not bad for my key words and I was happy about this. Then suddenly my other pages took over and my index page was not being indexed but the other pages are all listed. Could it be because someone told me to put a revisit tag on my homepage. I did take this off questioning if that was the problem. I also changed it from "follow" to "index, follow" If anyone has an idea why my homepage isn't even showing up but my other pages are ranking high. Please let me know.
Thanks

Welcome nboe!

The changes you made probably didn't cause the SE results changes.

Most likely, your sub pages are more relevant to the topics being searched. Just be sure to have proper navigation on all of your pages and you should benefit from this. And it saves people a click or two and should lead to more conversions (or actions).

Suggestion: If you're ranking well, don't complain about it!

...a revisit tag on my homepage

It's a useless tag, sort of like the rank-number-one tag (;)), but I don't think it is hurting you.

Is your index page not indexed, or simply not ranking? There is a big difference.

Do you have links on other sites pointing to your index page?

Do you have a site map?

"Robert Charlton" asked a good question.

I doubt your page is not indexed. It just might be not too relevant for your targeted keywords/phrase.

Do a search in Google:
site:www.domain.com
and you should get all the indexed pages from your site.

Hi, With yahoo my site is ranking well- everything but my homepage- which isn't indexed anymore as it once was. Now my other pages have taken over where the homepage was before. It seems that my homepage would be just as relevant since I use the same basic key words frequently. Maybe I am over using them on my homepage compared to my other pages. But it is wierd that I can't find my homepage indexed even when I search site: www.domain.com On google my homepage is indexed but they have a very old cache that isn't ranking well. They had a new cache that was ranking well but went back to the old cache that is not ranking. Something seems to be going on with my index page, is it possible I was working on it the last time the googlebot came around so they put the old cache back on. Thanks for input!

I forgot to say- I do have a site map. I'm not sure if it is set up correctly though. I might have to investigate into that.
