messenger, AOL,MSN,yahoo which is the best

I have never used a messenger yet and I know its about time, but I have always worried about privacy issus and how save it is to comunicate.

If you making a deal or contract with another company you dont want it to be a open book and which has the best features for the future.

I know people who use all of them

actually, I have accounts with each, also icq and skype

there are also other clients like gaim, trillian, amsn among many, many others.

they are all a little different but mostly have the same features.

I use trillian and it allows me to connect to multiple accounts of AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo all at once. It has a lot of nice features as well, one of them being containers, so that all messages go to one container which is just one window with a tabbed interface to get all your messages.

This way you can talk to anyone you want no matter what service.

if you know people who use different ones then it is good to have gaim or trillian which are both multi network clients.

I agree, and have used Trillian and found it to be excellent for cross-platform compatability. However I'm not sure about its security levels.

Look - you don't want to send CC info, passwords and whatnot over chat - but your usually day to day "hey what's up" is not likely to be intercepted, and even if it is, so what?

Trillian and Gaim are just programs that let you use any of the major chat networks. It is no big deal to sign up for a free Y! ID or one from hotmail. I personally have accounts with Aol messenger, Y! and Hotmail - which lets me IM just about anyone and instead of running 3 separate programs, I just run Trillian. It also notifies my if I have email - since I use a Y! email address for my Amazon account, as an example.

Most of the people I talk to online have Aol Instant Messenger. In my experience it has been the most popular, but maybe it's just the people I know. Even though it isn't my favorite feature-wise, I ended up using it as my main messenger program anyway just because it's what everyone else has.

I also have trillian and love it, but it has always been very buggy for me. So if a stable and secure program are a priority for you, I wouldn't recommend it. Even if you do get trillian, you will still have to sign up for an account with the other messenger services.

Good choice! Also, just stick with trillian basic, I see no need for purchasing their professional version, unless you really need certain plug-ins which no one "really" does.

Sign up for MSN Messneger, AIM, and Yahoo.

When you install AIM and Yahoo messenger clients, make sure to READ what you are installing. They will try to put all kinds of crap on your machine if you aren't paying attention and go with the default install.

Trillian was alright in the beginning, but got tired of it, so an uninstall was in order.

They all run in the background if I want them to.

I like MSN best and since most people I know already have a hotmail address it is the easiest for others to go with.

Another thing is that it is already installed on WinXP which makes it even for my parents easy to sign up now they have a new computer :).

I also use ICQ and Yahoo. However ICQ looks too dull and old as well is quite slow in sending messages.

Yahoo has the problem that it is not possible to hide for just a couple people. You have to hide for everone or noone. (In MSN you can just block a couple people you don't like to talk to for a day or 2).
