i have this little website www.mosaicdancestudios.com and was wondering how i can tell if it has been indexed
i submitted my site to [submitexpress.com...] who claims to submit to 40 well known search engines over 2 weeks ago
ive tried searching on google and nothing comes up using belly dancing brisbane and adding mosaic dance studios neither
if i enter mosaicdancestudios a link to the website comes up but no listing
does this mean the site has been indexed or not?
i also went to dmoz but went around in circles as not all their links work and could not find a suitable category because of the the link failures...
ive manually submitted to google now and tried hotbot/lycos who wanted personal details such as home phone number and address for free submission, so i sent an email asking why they wanted this information and am waiting a reply. Will i HAVE to provide this information to submit to lycos SE? i could always ask the owner of the site for these details if i had to but would like to only as a last resort..
any suggestions please :)

Welcome to WebmasterWorld Pixelwraith. Please familiarize yourself with our Terms of Service [webmasterworld.com]. One of the things to avoid is posting specific information regarding our websites, such as URL, Title and specific KeyWords. If this was permitted, it could really get out of hand.

Submitting your site 'by hand' to Search Engines (SE) is always the best. Don't rely on automatic submission services. Most SE now have security to stop submission-bots due to abuse. And yes, many SE/Directories ask for personal info, the choice is yours. Tip - use a web based email address that you can easily disgard if the SPAM gets too intense.

Getting into the Open Directory (DMOZ) and Yahoo Directory is a huge plus, since many SE crawl there to pick-up their sites. Also, getting other sites to link to yours is an absolute must, since these SE bots will follow these links to yours.

Then it's just a matter of waiting. While waiting, keep creating more webpages with on-topic content and then wait some more :)

keyplyr's right. A great method is to have a link to your site posted on a frequently crawled site. This will allow the search engines to find you (which they like). Then all you need is patience :) Rather than spend your time worrying that you've submitted to each and every search engine, you can spend time writing valuable content. Best of luck!

Ya, I couldnt get my site into dmoz at all even though I tried for over a year.

Finally I just got fed up and became an editor in pure frustration and found 78 sites waiting to be added to dmoz in my TINY niche section alone... about 2/3ths the way down I found my original submission from 2003 still just sitting there.
